Red Bull admitted that the F1 test was “not as smooth” because they expected more than their speed marks than their speed than the Burstors McLaren at a clear pace ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
During three days of testing in Bahrain, Red Bull completed laps at least as Max Verustapen set the second best time of the last day behind George Russell on Friday.
However, the RB21 was regularly in the garage as the team had changed the entire test, but on Thursday, there was failure under water pressure.
Neither Verustapen or Liam Lawson completed a complete race simulation either, which would have been the best indicator of the speed of the red bull.
Technical Director Pierre Wacch said, “It was not as smoothly as we expected and the team expected, but later it is better to find some problems here than the bottom of the line and that is why we are here, to understand the car.”
“The weather was not with us and was not very representative of this track, but we tried to find out the ability of the car and tried to understand how it reacts to various set-ups, and I think we achieved more or less.
“I think it is very difficult to see an initial order for Melbourne across the grid, you see that four teams look quite early including us, but we did not look too much in other teams, we tried to focus on our program.
“I am not as happy as I can be because the car did not answer how we wanted many times, but it is going in the right direction, just the magnitude of the direction was not as big as we expected and this is something that we need to work for the first race and future development.”
Verstappen: work to work but the test was ‘not bad’
Vestapen has an opportunity to equalize the records of Michael Schumacar of five consecutive titles this year, but McLaren goes as a favorite in the Lando Noris season after being the most affected by the test.
On the second day of the trial, Noris Ferrari’s Charles Lakeler and Mercedes km Antonally had a second faster during the final term of their respective race simulation compared to Kim Antonally, on a sharp tire.
Lewis Hamilton reported that Verustapane had run a “decent” for a long time, but Dutchman reduced expectations.
“I think we had a good day, there were some problems, but overall, we fulfilled what we wanted to do.”
“I think it was not bad, but still has to work at the same time. However, this is what we used to expect and we will continue to work and try to improve and hope, as we go to Melbourne, we will learn a little more than going through data and see where we are.
“It is difficult to mention where everyone’s speed is, so we still have a little work to do. We are eager to start racing properly in Australia.”
