China and Bangladesh on Friday signed nine agreements after an important meeting between President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Younus. In this meeting, Younis mentioned the students’ movements in Dhaka, which led to a change in power and urged Beijing to play a major role in establishing peace and stability.

After the meeting, the two countries signed agreements to promote economic and technical cooperation, development, translation and publication of classical literature, cultural heritage, news and media exchange, and cooperation in the health sector.

Yunus has special expectations from Jinping

Yunus requested China to play a more active role in establishing peace, prosperity and stability for both countries. His visit is being seen as especially as he will attend the Bookstric Summit in Bangkok next week, where he has expressed his desire to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though India has not confirmed the meeting so far.

After the Yunus government came to power, China has hosted a Bangladeshi delegation, including Foreign Affairs Advisor Tawheed Hussain and radical Islamic parties such as Jamaat -e -Islami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). In addition, the two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as water resources management, flood prevention, river slot evacuation, water resources development and technology sharing.

The two countries signed a plan to implement hydroology information about the Brahmapotra River (Yarling Jungbo and Jumuna in Bangladesh). Younis requested China to reduce the loan interest rate from 3 % to 1-2 % and to waive a commitment fee on Chinese funding projects.

Let us tell you that China is the fourth largest lender in Bangladesh, which has given a total loan of US $ 7.5 billion since 1975. The meeting discussed business, agriculture, infrastructure, renewable energy, Rohingya crisis and other strategic issues to include a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.
