Former Congress MLA and candidate from Sonepat Assembly seat Surinder Pawar has got a big relief from the High Court. The Punjab and Haryana High Court termed Surinder Pawar’s arrest by the ED as illegal and political. Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu’s court gave this order in open court. Pawar argued that his arrest was for political reasons. Legal procedures were not followed properly in this case. He had said that in the case registered under the Money Laundering Act, action was taken against him for political reasons and there were constant demands for his detention.
After hearing it, the court ruled in favor of Surinder Pawar. The bench said, ‘Surendra Pawar was arrested for political reasons. He was among the few people who were arrested in the case. The ED had repeatedly sought custodial remand, giving the same arguments. It was said that he was not cooperating as an accused. Behavior is ambiguous and needs to be noticed by other people. On this, the petitioner challenged the arguments of the ED saying that no new evidence has been presented against him so far. In this case, the special court had earlier granted remand but later refused to extend it.
Not only this, the court said that the ED did not give the correct reason for the arrest. In addition, the remand applications did not state adequate reasons and the legal basis was also weak. Thus, the High Court has given great relief to Surinder Singh Panwar. Apart from this, the bench also questioned the special court’s order to remand them. The bench said that legal principles have been ignored in this case. Thus, while the court has given a big relief to the Congress candidate, the ED has also given a harsh verdict. This order is dated yesterday but its detailed copy has come out today.
