Justice Nagarathna stressed the need to emphasize that Federalism, Fraternitiesfundamental rights, and principled governance. He elaborated: “It has to be kept in mind that the Union and the State have the right to deal with subjects of national and regional importance respectively.”
The judge stressed that the states should not be deemed incompetent or subservient. “The spirit of constitutional statesmanship, not partisan brinkmanship, must be the mantra,” he said.
He acknowledged the progress, saying: “Fortunately, we have a Constitution that touches, inspires and motivates our collective life like the Pole Star. It is a lasting reminder that a more democratic, more equal, more just and more tolerant nation, even in contemporary times, remains an ideal.”
