Abraham Stern, the leader of a Zionist armed group that fought the British in Palestine, aimed to create a Jewish state.
National Jewish hero or radical Zionist paramilitary leader? Abraham Stern was the leader of the Stern Gang, one of the Jewish armed groups that fought against the British Mandate in Palestine during the 1930s and early 40s.
The film tells his story through his own son and a number of contemporary historians. It presents both pro and anti-Stern sides of a controversial narrative – who Stern was, how he founded and ran the Stern Gang, and how he led it in fighting the British administration and the Palestinians, with the ultimate aim of establishing a Jewish state. Some historians believe he may have collaborated with the Nazis and accepted money and arms in a deal that would allow them to send large numbers of Jews from Germany to Palestine. Whatever the evidence, this is fascinating information about a key figure in the Zionist movement that led to the creation of Israel.
