The paramilitary fighters, along with Sudan’s Rapid Support Force, started returning from a large number of Khartum’s fight on Wednesday, ran away from a city since a ruined war nearly two years ago.

Sudan’s military occupies the city is a dramatic turn that is currently the largest war in Africa. The Rapid Support Force, known as RSF, is likely to withdraw its stronghold in Darfur in the west of the country, according to analysts.

Surveillance drone footage aired by Sudan’s army showed hundreds of RSF fighters crossing a dam on Neil in Jebel Auliya in the south of the capital – their last remaining escape route.

But on Wednesday morning, the army announced that it had seized the control of the airport, which was lined with the ruins of the passengers who were released at the beginning of the war in April 2023. On Wednesday afternoon, the soldiers posed on the runway for television cameras before an abandoned aircraft.

The last concentration of RSF fighters in the capital appeared in the southern and western part of Omdurman on the west coast of Neil. The army controls the northern half of Omdurman, and the controlled areas of the army have received sporadic shellfire from RSF posts in recent years.
