Syria Follow the UN resolution on the elimination of chemical weapons: Pakistan Trending Global News

Pakistan told the UN Security Council that the establishment of a new interim government in Syria has provided the country with the opportunity to clear the country from chemical weapons and ensure full compliance with the chemical weapons Convention (CWC).

According to Pakistan’s state -run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Pakistan’s permanent delegation to the United Nations Munir Akram said in a debate on the Middle East topic that “taking advantage of the current opportunity to resolve the issues in Syria, including chemical weapons.”

“We consider the only way to move forward with negotiations, cooperation and the CWC and the Security Council resolutions so that the issue of chemical weapons in Syria can be resolved as soon as possible,” he added.

Under this resolution, Syria must completely declare all its chemical weapons and destroy them under the supervision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The resolution also indicates possible consequences under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter (VII), which may include implementation measures to tackle the threats posed by international peace and security.

Since joining the CWC in Syria in 2013, OPCW has repeatedly expressed reservations about the accuracy and completion of its data.

In his address, Ambassador Munir Akram said that Pakistan condemns the use of chemical weapons in any individual, place and case.

“We consider the chemical weapons convention as a pillar for global weapons control and reduce weapons,” he said. Pakistan is committed to furthering the goals of the CWC, protecting OPCW’s effectiveness, neutrality and its verification mechanism. ‘

“We are in favor of the CWC’s global verification and fully, effective and non -discriminatory implementation,” he added.

Ambassador Munir Akram emphasized that “Pakistan supports a comprehensive, Syrian people led by the Syrian people and the political process in the Syrian people under the supervision of the United Nations.”

He also emphasized that “according to the Security Council resolution 1540 (2004), terrorists should not be allowed to access destructive weapons, including chemical weapons.”

He welcomed the Syrian interim government’s commitment to secure suspected chemical weapons locations and cooperation with the OPCW, saying that “all the solutions should be resolved and the OPCW gave the OPCW any possible access to any potential for the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria and its spread.”

He added, “We emphasize consensus and unity to resolve all the solutions to Syria in the Security Council, restore the normal situation and protect peace and security in the region.”

At a 15 -member meeting of the Security Council, Azmi Nisfisu, a senior representative of the United Nations, welcomed the cooperation of Syria’s new government with the OPCW and emphasized the need for full compliance with international law.
