Troy Aikman spoke about the Cowboys’ head coaching opening on Monday Night Football after the franchise decided to move on from Mike McCarthy and his assessment was brutal. He suggested that it seems there is no coherent plan on Jerry Jones’ part because he has let the incumbent go without interviewing with other candidates. The Hall-of-Fame quarterback said, mentioning the likes of Kellen Moore, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn to name a few.
“It shows there’s no real plan. The fact that they haven’t had the opportunity to interview Ben Johnson and some of these others, Aaron Glenn. Kellen Moore is a candidate, it seems logical to me. He There’s a guy he’s familiar with the building. He’s obviously worked with the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and they know each other very well.”
Troy Aikman was also critical of whether the Cowboys’ vacancy is still prestigious. He acknowledged the high-profile nature of the franchise but said it may not be the most attractive start for potential head coaches. He explained this by saying that most candidates would like to do this work on their own terms and that is hard to do in Dallas, commenting,
,
“As far as a prestigious job, I don’t know that’s accurate. I think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team and whoever is the head coach of that team certainly gets a lot of attention.” “But I think most football players who take over as head coaches want to do it on their own terms, and it’s hard to do that.”

Cowboys HOF Troy Aikman uses Dan Campbell to make his point after Mike McCarthy’s firing
Troy Aikman further made his point using the example of Dan Campbell, who has been very successful as a head coach in Detroit. He may not have been able to achieve the same results in Dallas, he said,
“For example, if you take Dan Campbell, is Dan Campbell (in Detroit) Dan Campbell if he’s with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s hard to imagine that he is. It’s hard to imagine that any of these There may be a lot of coaches I played there for 12 years, but I’m not sure it’s a prestigious job. Will be.”
It was a serious indictment on the present-day Cowboys from a man who did as much to make the franchise great as anyone else.
