The United States President Donald Trump has threatened to hold Iran responsible for any attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen, to increase his pressure campaign against the government in Tehran.
The Republican leader on Monday issued a warning on his social media platform Truth Social, signed a post with his name.
“Let anyone be foolish! Hundreds of attacks carried out by Houthi, the horrific dacoits and thugs located in Yemen, who hate the Yemeni people, have all emerged, and are created by Iran, “Trump,” Trump wrote,
,Any further attack or vengeance by ‘Hauthis’ will be fulfilled with great strength, and there is no guarantee that this force will stop there. ,
The Huthis have led a series of attacks against Israeli ships and other commercial ships, against the Israeli war in Gaza and protest against the blockade of human supply in the Palestinian region.
Experts widely acknowledge that Iran helps divide Hothis, which is considered part of an informal “axis of resistance” supported by Iran.
While Trump has previously inspired Iran to end his support for Hauthis, his comment on Monday indicates a significant growth – indicating a potential military action against Iran.
“Every shot fired by Haouthis will be seen beyond this point, as Iran’s arms and leadership were shot, and Iran will be held responsible, and the consequences will have to bear the consequences, and they will be serious!” Trump wrote in his post.
These comments reach Trump and Iran at a delicate time diplomatically for their counterparts.
Trump is motivated to hate Iran – although in 2018, during his first term at the White House, the President withdrew the US from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), a deal that would have seen his nuclear ambitions in exchange for restrictions.
Earlier this month, Trump sent a letter to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which warned that the US could “military” a reply if there was no nuclear deal.
But Khamenei resumed Trump’s attempts to interact, dismissed him as “bullying” and pointing to the fact that Trump rejected the previous agreement.
Iran has consistently stated that its atomic program is for civil purposes, and has refused to chase nuclear weapons.
At the same time, Trump has raised US attacks on the Howothis, warning last week by the armed group that it would try to ban Israeli ships from nearby waterways.
Hauthis said in a statement, “Any Israeli vessel attempting to violate this ban will be subject to military targeting in the declared operating sector.”
The rebels indicated that Israel indicated a ban on a blockade imposed on Gaza, preventing the human supply from entering the war -torn area from March 2.
However, Israel is a long -time associate of the US, and Trump on Saturday responded to the dangers of Hauthis with his own one.
“Today, I have ordered the United States Army to initiate decisive and powerful military action against Houthi militants in Yemen,” Trump wrote over the weekend, at the beginning of a 24 -hour intensive bombing in Yemen.
From Saturday to Sunday, the US carried out an estimated 47 air strikes, killed seven Yemeni provinces and killed 53 people. The Yemeni capital of Sanaa, which is controlled by Hauthis, was one of the affected areas.
In announcing the weekend attacks, Trump also warned Iran about his support for Hauthis.
“For Iran: Support for Houthi Terrorists must end immediately! American people, their presidents, who do not threaten the biggest mandate in the history of the President, or the shipping lane worldwide,” he said wrote,
“If you do, be careful, because America will hold you completely accountable and, we will not be good about it!”
Houthis has attacked around 100 ships in the region since November 2023, two drowning, and Trump is not the first President to attack Hurti targets.
Trump’s predecessor, Democratic President Joe Biden, similarly ordered several rounds of attacks on Hothi-controlled areas in Yemen.
But Biden and his administration described attacks designed to disrupt the attacks of Hauthis, and refused to demand an increase in violence. Pentagon spokesman Sabrina Singh said in 2024, “We don’t want to see a regional war.”
Trump, however, dismissed Biden’s efforts against the centenary as a “victim -weaker”. He and Biden were rivals in the 2020 presidential election, which was lost by Trump.
Meanwhile, Hauthis has promised to respond to Trump’s attacks. On Sunday, his leader, Abdul-Malik al-Hauthi said, “We will face growth with growth.”
Already, the group has claimed that a ventilator strike has been carried out against a US Navy ship.
On Monday, the US Department of Defense indicated attacks from the brothers, they would not be tolerated.
“If you shoot on American soldiers, the results will be,” spokesperson Sean Parnell said, avoiding Trump’s “peace through peace”. “We will use heavy deadly force until we achieve our purpose.”
But Parnell was in a hurry to specify that Trump was not demanding war despite America’s new threats. “It is also not an endless aggressive. This is not about the change of governance in the Middle East. It is about keeping American interests first. ,
The Colin Clarke-Soufan Group told Research Director-Ne Al Jazeera for a consultancy firm that Trump’s rapid heated rhetoric goes against some of his campaign-tril rhetoric.
In 2024 running for a second term, Trump promised to bring peace in the Middle East and to withdraw America from foreign wars.
“Look, Trump has spoken endless about withdrawing from the Middle East. He does not want to get entangled in foreign wars, ”said Clarke. “So it’s interesting that he is moving with these kinetic strikes, actually as a sign for leadership in Tehran.”
Clarke said that attacks on Hothis could be a method for Tram to force Iran into nuclear dialogue.
“Trump is expected to attract Ayatollah’s attention with it, and he expects to use these strikes and potentially more in the coming days and weeks to push the Iranians close to the table.”
