Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters have not behaved as expected after coming out of jails, contrary to the agreement with the government.
Speaking at Thursday's meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior of the Upper House of Parliament (Senate), the Federal Interior Minister said: 'After the Taliban came out of Pakistan's jails, we expected that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan would behave well. Our guess was something else. However, they did not behave like this. The incidents of terrorism started to increase from here.'
However, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi refrained from revealing the details of the agreement between the TTP and the government of Pakistan, saying that 'the matter will take a political nature.'
During the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, an agreement between Islamabad and the TTP resulted in a certain number of Pakistani Taliban fighters being allowed to come to Pakistan from Afghanistan and released from Pakistani jails.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has repeatedly said that the deal was aimed at bringing Pakistani Taliban fighters back into the mainstream and rehabilitating them as useful members of society.
