The BJP on Monday announced its candidate for the Legislative Council (MLC) seat due to the resignation of Swami Prasad Maurya. BJP has declared Bahuran Lal Maurya as its candidate for the MLC by-election. It is believed that Bahorn Moriah will be easily elected. The MLC on this seat is to be elected by the votes of the MLAs. In such a situation SP will hardly field any candidate. Even if SP fields a candidate, BJP's victory is considered certain due to majority. The reason for fielding Bahoran is also believed to be to challenge Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's PDA. The BJP believes that it lost the Lok Sabha elections only because of the non-Yadav OBC votes. In such a situation, BJP's emphasis is once again on OBC votes. The removal of Bahorn Moriah is being considered as a part of this.
Bahuran Lal Maurya was elected MLA from Bhojpura seat in Bareilly in 2017. BJP gave him ticket again in 2022 but he could not win. He was defeated by Samajwadi Party candidate Shahjal Islam. It was then said that during the 2017 assembly elections, village heads and area panchayat members had fully supported Bahuran Lal Maurya in winning the elections. They came against him in 2022. At first the matter was limited to contradiction.
Later, voices of protest were raised. The situation had become such that a large number of village heads and area panchayat members had written that they would quit the BJP if Bahornal Maurya was given the ticket again. It is believed that this was the reason why the BJP high command stopped Bahuran Lal Maurya before announcing his name in Bhojpura. But after Swami Prasad Maurya joined the SP, the BJP did not take the risk of cutting his ticket. As a result, BJP lost seats.
