Washington:

US President Donald Trump’s response to the growing tension between Pakistan and India has come to light following the incident in Pahalgam, occupied Kashmir. The US president has said that the two countries should resolve the issue themselves as tensions between them are nothing new.

According to a foreign news agency, President Trump told reporters, “Pakistan and India will somehow resolve the issue themselves. There has always been a major tension between them.” He made it clear that he knew the leaders of the two countries but did not confirm whether they would contact them directly.

Tensions in the region have increased significantly since the recent attack in the Pahalgam area of occupied Kashmir. The incident has been described as the worst of its kind in the last twenty years, killing 26 people. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack, which Pakistan has rejected.

Following the incident, relations between the two neighbors have been further tense. India has suspended the Indus Treaty Treaty while Pakistan has closed its airspace for Indian flights. Trade relations are also being affected.

President Trump said, “If these two countries have been tension for 1500 years, you know, this has always been.” He added that he is “very close” to both Pakistan and India, but he has no intention of direct interference on the Kashmir dispute.

US State Department spokeswoman Timi Bruce also commented on the situation, saying that this is a rapidly changing situation and we are keeping a close eye on it. He said that the United States is not currently taking a clear stand on the status of Kashmir.

UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres has also expressed concern over the current tension and appealed to the two countries to show maximum patience.

President Trump’s statement gives the impression that the United States is urging both sides to resolve their issues diplomatically and peacefully instead of mediation in the conflict.
