New Delhi: 14-year-old Virender Sehwag is carrying forward his father’s cricketing legacy Vedant Sehwag demonstrated his talent admirably four wicket hall For Delhi Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy On Saturday.
Facing a strong Punjab team in Shimoga, Vedant stood firm despite Punjab posting a mammoth score of 469 runs in the first innings.
Off-spinner Vedant’s tenacity was crucial in breaking Punjab’s batting momentum. After a mammoth 163-run partnership between the opening pair of Gursimran Singh (196) and Advik Singh (90), Vedanta made the breakthrough by dismissing Advik. Later he struck again by taking the wicket of Arvind Singh (56) and then took the prized wicket of Gursimran, who was on his way to a double century. After this he completed his four wickets by dismissing Sakshi.
Vedant bowled tirelessly and bowled 40 overs including 10 maidens and gave 140 runs. His spell contained 178 dot balls, demonstrating his ability to maintain control and challenge the batsmen over long spells. Along with Prince Mishra, who took 4 for 97, Vedant’s efforts ensured that Delhi remained in the fight, although Punjab remained in a dominant position.

While 17-year-old Aryaveer’s innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, Vedant’s display of discipline and determination with the ball reflected the diverse skill set within the Sehwag family.
