Hull KR have reclaimed top spot in the Betfred Super League with a sensational 22-4 win over Warrington Wolves.

Wolves looked strong after going top with a fifth consecutive win last weekend, but the hard-working Robins brought them to ground with a superb performance at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Tries from Jesse Soo and Tyrone May gave the visitors a 10-0 lead at half-time and a strong defence helped Warrington maintain the lead but goals from Mikey Lewis and Peta Hiku sealed the win.

A 12-point margin, helped by two goals from Jez Litton and one from Lewis, was enough to move the team from East Hull above Wigan Warriors on points difference.

Willie Peters’ side fully deserved their success as they took the game to Warrington, and took the lead as early as the sixth minute when Soo scored from a pass from Matt Parsell.

Wolves struggled to contain Hull KR, with veteran Ryan Hall thinking he had scored again when he got a touch on the ball from Lewis’s kick but had his effort disallowed as a knock-on.

There was no debate as the visitors extended their lead after 19 minutes, this time May heading Lewis’s ‘bomb’ cleanly into the net.

Oliver Gildart claimed another goal when he picked up a loose ball and headed forward, but the Robins were let down by the video referee once again as play was pulled back for a Hall knock-on.

Warrington brought on debutant John Bateman from the bench and finally started to make a stir in the closing stages of the first half. Yet they too were denied by the officials as Josh Thewlis and Josh Drinkwater had efforts ruled out.

The Robins defence also held strong as the hosts increased the pressure, with George Williams stopping Roderick Tai after a good break and Hall diving bravely to catch Matt Dufty’s dangerous kick.

Warrington continued to press after the restart but were unable to find a way past Tai Lewis. However, Hull KR finally found the breakthrough when Dufty provided a cut-out pass to Matty Ashton and the winger scored in the corner.

However, the Robins held on and extended their lead after some poor defending from the hosts allowed Lewis to latch on to a bouncing ball and head across the whitewash.

Warrington were beaten and after Lewis had a drop-goal attempt blocked, former Wolves player Hiku made his way into the corner to seal a memorable win.
