Reflecting on the Nirbhaya case, Asha Devi questioned the progress made since the 2012 incident.
He said, “What have we learnt from the Nirbhaya incident? What changes have been made in the system? We are still stuck in 2012.”
She demanded swift and appropriate punishment for all those involved in the case and expressed concern about the safety of women in general.
He said, “If more than one person was involved, then all the accused must be arrested immediately and punished without delay. It is still not clear whether the victim was attacked by one person or gang-raped. Such a heinous crime took place when a doctor was on duty in the hospital. If doctors are not safe inside the hospital, then what hope is there for the safety of common women and girls?”
The incident took place on August 9, when a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.
This triggered a nationwide strike and protests by the medical community.
