New Delhi: Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s performance against Pakistan is outstanding and an important part of his illustrious cricket career.
Matches against Pakistan often took on added significance due to the intense rivalry between the two countries and Tendulkar played some of his most memorable innings across all formats against Pakistan.
One such memorable innings came on March 16, 2004. Rawalpindi When Tendulkar scored 141 runs against bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq.
Tendulkar completed his century off 106 balls by taking a single off Shoaib Akhtar on the second ball of the 30th over of the Indian innings.
Tendulkar completed his century with the help of 13 fours and became the first Indian to score an ODI century in Pakistan.
During his innings, Tendulkar also completed 13,000 runs in ODIs and needless to say, he was the first batsman to reach this milestone.
Chasing a target of 330 runs, Tendulkar scored a brilliant 141 runs off 135 balls with the help of 17 fours and a six. The second highest run scorer for India in that match was Rahul Dravid who scored 36 runs.
Tendulkar was caught by Abdul Razzaq off Shoaib Malik in the 39th over, as India lost the match by 12 runs and Pakistan levelled the five-match series 1–1.
Sachin made his international debut at the age of 16 in the Test series against Pakistan in 1989. Facing a world-class bowling attack comprising Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis (who also made his debut) and Abdul Qadir, Tendulkar displayed indomitable courage, signalling the arrival of a future great cricketer.
Tendulkar’s matches against Pakistan have always been of great importance, and his ability to perform in these pressure-filled matches has made him one of cricket’s greatest players.
Tendulkar’s battles with Pakistani legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younus and Shoaib Akhtar are still remembered by fans on both sides of the border.
