Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said on Friday that no underworld gang was behind the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The suspect detained in connection with the attack (who was later released) is not part of a gang, Kadam said in Pune. This attack was not carried out by any group. Minister Yogesh Kadam said that the only motive behind the attack on the actor was theft.
The police had arrested a carpenter in connection with the attack as he resembled the accused who broke into Saif Ali Khan’s house. He was brought to the Bandra police station on Friday morning for questioning, but was later released. A senior police officer clarified that the man has nothing to do with the attack on the actor and no one has been arrested yet. The minister said, ‘Saif Ali Khan has not yet given any information to the police that he is in any danger. He has not asked for any security cover, but if he does, we will follow the appropriate process.
When the Maharashtra minister was asked if security would be provided to the actor after the incident, Kadam said if Saif Ali Khan feels his life is in danger, he can get security. He further said, ‘Police administration will take appropriate decision after review. There is a police committee that reviews protection requests. It is provided to the individual based on the severity of the risk.
Saif Ali Khan (54) was stabbed repeatedly by an assailant in his 12th floor flat in Bandra in the early hours of Thursday morning. He had to undergo surgery at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors said on Friday that he is responding very well and is expected to be discharged in two to three days. When asked about the possible involvement of a criminal group in the attack, Minister Kadam said that no such angle has been found in the initial investigation. At present, the only motive behind this incident is known to be theft.
