New Delhi. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail in the Delhi liquor scam case, has not been able to get relief from the court. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared in the Delhi High Court on behalf of CM Kejriwal, tried his best to get him bail. Nevertheless, the court reserved the decision. At the same time, the court directed the regular bail hearing to be held on July 29. Meanwhile, Abhishek Manu Singhvi made explosive arguments to grant bail to CM Kejriwal. He compared CM Arvind Kejriwal with former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. He said that he does not want what happened in Pakistan to happen in India as well.

Justice Neena Bansalkrishna of the Delhi High Court heard the petition of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on July 17, 2024 despite Muharram being a holiday. He heard the arguments of Kejriwal and CBI lawyers and reserved his decision. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared in the court on behalf of CM Arvind Kejriwal. Singhvi mentioned the case of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that it (Kejriwal's arrest) is an unnecessary arrest, which cannot be tolerated. Singhvi said, 'We all read in newspapers recently that Imran Khan was released in several cases one after the other, but the day he came out of jail, he was arrested in another case. Now they (Pakistani authorities) want to register a big case against him. I don't want similar things to happen in our country.

Arrest Insurance: CBI's apt reply to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, says – Who will decide how to investigate the case?

Argument of Kejriwal
CM Kejriwal's lawyer argued that the CBI did not want to arrest him and they had no material to detain him. Looking at the events, it was revealed that he was arrested to keep him in jail. “Unfortunately, this is an insurance arrest to prevent release,” argued senior lawyer Abhishek Singhvi, representing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Kejriwal. I have three effective release orders (in ED cases) with very strict provisions. These orders indicate that the person is eligible for release. He should be released, but he is arrested to ensure that he is not released.

Kejriwal is not a terrorist – Singhvi
Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Kejriwal is not a terrorist but the Chief Minister of Delhi. He said that his arrest was not made under law and being the Chief Minister he was entitled to bail. He argued that this is the rarest case. He (Kejriwal) is already in custody in ED case and CBI is doing nothing for last one year and then suddenly arrest him. He said that those who are doing this work want him to be detained somehow. Singhvi said that Kejriwal's VIP status has made him worse than the common man. Advocate DP Singh, appearing for the CBI, opposed the petitions filed by Kejriwal.
